Art on the Street 2015

Chantal Emory

A Guelph Tradition:

Art on the Street is one of Guelph's largest, most recognized, juried art exhibitions. So, needless to say, it's kind of a big deal. Every year my fiancé and I, along with our bulldog, would make the trek towards the hustle and bustle of downtown on the first Saturday in July. 3 years in a row, drawn by the music and festivities, we would wander up and down the closed off Quebec Street and enjoy dozens of local Guelph art vendors. Finally, this year, I decided that this was something that I needed to be a part of. This was going to be my first real art show in Guelph. After a busy couple of months of painting and planning, the day finally came and, with the help of my fiancé, I got to set up on Quebec Street, downtown Guelph alongside dozens of other crazy-talented vendors and show my work off to my hometown crowd.
Guelph is the ultimate creative city, so, this was definitely my favourite show to date. I found everyone to be extremely welcoming and the Guelph Art Council to be so professional and helpful. I can absolutely say that I am looking forward to going back and making this festival a permanent tradition of mine.
